Our Story

Our Name, Our Goals

Our goal is to produce horse that you can ride for the next 25 years, but that you wish you could ride everyday for the rest of your life.

The inspiration for the name Tranquilo Dressage Sporthorses came from a trip to Colombia. My father and I were going on a trail ride at my friends’ farm. Our trail guide only spoke Spanish and my Spanish is terrible.

My father is not a horse rider, so I was worried about him getting a horse that was too hot for him. The guides brought out the horses having been prepped by my friends, knowing that my dad was not a rider.

The horse that arrived for my dad was a stallion. I became alarmed because of the tendency for stallions to be hot. I didn’t know how to communicate my concerns in the Spanish language so I resorted to body language. I began pointing to the horse’s testicles and pointing at my dad and calling him the only word I could think up that signified a need to be protected: bambino (baby). The guide replied by gesturing to the horse and saying multiple words that I didn’t understand. Finally, he said one that I did understand: tranquilo, muy tranquilo. This I understood. He was saying “calm, very calm.”

Indeed, the stallion was calm and he took good care of my dad on the trail ride. This stallion’s ability to be two things at once, calm with the magnific physical make up of a stallion, is the inspiration for Tranquilo Dressage Sporthorses.

This mission of Tranquilo Dressage Sporthorses is to use research and careful selection to breed horses that sound brilliant movers with excellent personalities. We are currently in our foundation phase. Our foundation mares have been chosen for their beauty, soundness, and kind dispositions. The stallions we are selecting are world class. They are all known to have wonderful personalities. No stallion will ever enter our program that does not have a renowned reputation for manners, intelligence, and willingness. The stallions must also have evidence of producing sound offspring with world class movement.
